A bonus has a marginal effect, not a special final tax rate

Compare the same annual estimate before and after a bonus or raise.

Run two complete calculations

Calculate annual employment income once without the extra pay and once with it. The difference in annual net income is the illustrated amount retained. CPP, CPP2, EI and personal-amount phaseouts can affect that difference as well as the income-tax bracket.

Withholding is a different question

Your employer may use the CRA non-periodic-payment method when paying a bonus. A surprising deduction on that pay slip does not by itself establish the final tax on the bonus. This site shows an annual comparison, not an instruction to payroll.

Plan the timing

A recurring raise, a one-time bonus and a deferred payment have different cash-flow patterns. Enter the portion actually expected within the selected year; do not multiply a midyear raise into a full-year amount unless that is your intended scenario.
